Indie Nail Polish Spotlight: Greetings Earthlings by Enchanted Polish (Swatch and Review)

I have a gorgeous, unique glitter topcoat to show you today- Greetings Earthlings from Enchanted Polish. This is a lovely melange of holographic micro and bar glitter, small black, pink and teal glitter, and green gold shimmer. Lots going on here, for sure! Here is one coat of Greetings Earthlings over NYC Color Mint Macaroon:
I love it! This is a topcoat that would look great over so many colors.. mint, pink, green, teal, white, black... I think a better question would be "What color doesn't it look good over?".
Do you like to spice things up with glitter topcoats or do you prefer to stick to more "traditional" creme and shimmer finish polishes?

Artsy Wednesday: Nail Art Inspired by Jewelry

This week's Artsy Wednesday challenge was to create a manicure inspired by a piece of jewelry. I have a lot of fun, colorful pieces by Betsey Johnson, so I thought it would be fun to choose one of those to mimic. I chose a bracelet with large colorful flowers and a rhinestone skull detail. Here is the manicure (and the bracelet!):
I used Color Club Jackie Oh for the pink base, but it was a bit too neon for this, so I added a coat of Zoya Kate to more closely match the color of the flower. I added dots with Milani White on the Spot. The skull was done with Barielle OutGreyGeous and Essie Set in Stones for sparkle. I used Zoya Robyn for the bow and Wet n' Wild Black Creme for the black details.
I think this manicure came out cute.. and its very Betsey!
Be sure to check out the manicures from the other ladies participating in Artsy Wednesday:

Amazing Luxury in the August Glossybox!

Since I started receiving a Glossybox in the mail each month, I haven't been disappointed with one. Each month's box has been carefully curated and filled with high value samples, often actually full size items. All of the boxes so far have been excellent.. but the August box blows my mind!
The theme of this month's box is "Pure Luxury", and the contents of the box really fit the bill!
Included this month are:
Sample of Biolage ExquisiteOil Replenishing Treatent
Full Size Ellis Faas Creamy Lips
Full Size Illamasqua Nail Varnish in Purity
Sample of Ole Henriksen Truth Serum
(Nearly) Full Size Touch in Sol Feel Like Honey Moon Skin Base.. I say this is nearly full size as this is a 1.06 oz sample, and a full size is 1.13 oz!
GLOSSYMag Mini Magazinea

The value on this month's box is insane! The full size Ellis Faas alone retails for 35 dollars, the Illamasqua polish another 14. The Glossybox subscription is 22 dollars a month, and it delivers incredible value that I have not seen in another subscription service. Besides the value, I love the variety here. Skincare, makeup, hair care, even a nail product. Its not just that the products included are expensive.. they're GOOD! I already own an Ellis Faas lip product, and it is excellent. I'm very happy to add another to my collection. I already love the skin base, too.
Amazing products this month.. I'm so excited to try the Illamasqua polish! Keep up the good work, Glossybox!
Now is a perfect time to get a subscription, as they are offering a where if you get a three month subscription, you get a fourth month free! Click the below image and use coupon code: NYFW

Review and Swatch: Cult Nails Let Me Fly

I have a gorgeous polish to show you today- Let Me Fly from Cult Nails. Let Me Fly is a dusty blue/teal color with blue and purple micro shimmer. This muted blue shade is right up my alley.. I love this color! I also love how you can wear it year round. It is one of those chameleon colors that it appropriate for any season!
Shown here in direct sunlight, you can really see that beautiful shimmer throughout. Upon close inspection in the bottle the shimmer almost looks like tiny micro flakes of purple, blue, and silver.. so pretty! The formula is great (like all Cult Nails polishes I've tried), very nearly a one coater! Shown is two coats. The polish applies like butter.. no streaks or patchiness.
Let me Fly is definitely a must-have!
What do you think of Let Me Fly? You can find this and many other lovely shades at cultnails.com

Swatch and Review: Nails Inc. Topping Lane from the Sprinkles Collection

I have one more gorgeous polish from the Nails Inc. Sprinkles Collection to show you (Check out my reviews of Sweets Way and Pudding Lane, too!). Topping Lane is a confectionery delight.. a mix of silver, dark pink, and blue glitters densely packed into a bubblegum pink base.
This polish is so lovely! I love how it is cute and fun without looking too juvenile. I usually don't like pink polishes very much, but the different colored glitters add a lot of depth and interest to this one!
What do you think of Topping Lane? You can find this and more Nails Inc. polishes at Nailsinc.com and Sephora.

Get Ready For Autumn.. with Intarsia Sweater Madness!

There are so many things I love about the Autumn. Cooler weather, apple picking, my birthday.. the list goes on and on. But one thing that will always remain near the top of the list is sweaters. After a hot, sticky Summer, I long for that first crisp Fall day where I can wear a cozy sweater.
I love a good intarsia sweater, too.. That is, a sweater with a colorful design knit right into it. I've compiled some of my favorites from around the web to show you. Some are modestly priced, some are.. ahem.. not so much.
Cashmere Robin Sweater, Bluefly.com

Penguin Sweater, Modcloth.com
Geo Sweater, Forever21.com
Joie Eloisa Sweater, from Shopbop.com
What do you think of these cute intarsia sweaters? What's your favorite thing about Autumn?

Artsy Wednesday: Framed Manicure

This week's Artsy Wednesday Challenge was to create a Framed Manicure.. That is, one color framed by another. Here is what I came up with:

I used Rescue Beauty Lounge Poppy as a base, and framed it with Wet n' Wild Black Creme. I taped off the tips before painting them, but then I got a bit lazy (I hate taping!) and freehanded the rest of the black with a small brush. I like the bold, graphic look.. it sort of reminds me of a Mondrian painting!
What do you think of this manicure?
Be sure to check out the framed manicures from the other ladies participating in Artsy Wednesday:

Review: Doux Amour by Spadaro Luxury Fragrances

Recently I had a chance to try out Doux Amour from Spadaro Luxury Fragrances. According to Spadaro, the notes are: of "A rare blend of floral essences – Ylang Ylang, Casablanca Lily and Moroccan Jasmine – wrapped in a sultry, sueded accord of Patchouli, Rare Amber Sandalwood, and laced with a sheer veil of Vanilla."
The jasmine comes through strongly on this perfume, as does the lily. I would say that the vanilla is more than a sheer veil, though. I find it quite noticeable. Not in a negative way, however.. it mixes with the florals and patchouli to create a sweet, sensuous, and slightly spicy fragrance. It is a really alluring fragrance, rich but not too heavy or overpowering. I received a sample vial so I haven't seen it in person, but the bottle (shown above)looks absolutely gorgeous.
You can find out more at Spadaro.co

Beauty for a Cause: Introducing the Laura Mercier Ovarian Cancer Fund

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, and will mark the launch of the Laura Mercier Ovarian Cancer Fund. Laura Mercier is an incredible cosmetics brand, creating gorgeous, ultra-luxe cosmetics for women of all ages. They are using their talents for good by creating two gorgeous new products- The Bonne Minne Palette and the Rose Hope Lip Glace- and donating 100% of the profits from their sale to the newly founded Ovarian Cancer Fund. Ovarian Cancer is a terrible disease, the leading cause of death among gynecological cancers in the U.S, and the fifth leading cause of women's cancer deaths overall. I feel good about supporting a brand doing something substantial to not only raise awareness, but to fund the search for a cure.
Here is an excerpt from the press release:

"INTRODUCING THE LAURA MERCIER OVARIAN CANCER FUND

NEW Bonne Mine Healthy Glow for Face & Cheeks Crème Colour Palette
& NEW Rose Hope Lip Glacé

Laura Mercier gives back with the launch of the Laura Mercier Ovarian Cancer Fund. Its mission is to raise awareness and fund research and educational efforts that will help diagnose, treat and support women with ovarian cancer.  Beginning in September 2012, in recognition of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, 100% of the profits from the sale of two products – Bonne Mine Healthy Glow for Face & Cheeks Crème Colour Palette and Rose Hope Lip Glacé – will be donated to the Laura Mercier Ovarian Cancer Fund.

BONNE MINE HEALTHY GLOW FOR FACE & CHEEKS CRÉME COLOUR PALETTE

This ultra-sheer, blendable and portable palette was inspired by Laura Mercier’s work with celebrity clients, who wanted a universal compact that would “wake-up” their skin and give them an immediate healthy glow. Skin is left with a natural “no makeup” glow that looks soft and sun-kissed.

The Bonne Mine Palette includes:
1 Bronzer Veil
2 Cheek Veils
2 Glow Veils

Application Instructions:
Step 1:
Start with a warm sun-kissed face. The sheer creamy formula gives skin a natural bronzed look.
Laura’s secret – use your fingertips to apply Bronzer Veil over areas where the sun naturally hits, like cheeks, nose, browbone, forehead and chin.
Step 2:
Add a touch of colour to cheeks. The creamy, sheer, buildable shades add a natural pop of colour over the Bronzer Veil.
Laura’s secret – use your fingertips to blend Cheek Veil over the apples of your cheeks.  You can apply either shade alone, or blend both shades together for a custom colour.
Step 3:
Finish with a healthy glow.  In this final step, the creamy, luminous highlighters give skin a natural radiance.
Laura’s secret – use your fingertips to blend Glow Veil over the high points of your face…the cheekbones, center of nose, browbone, cupid’s bow and top of forehead.

Suggested Retail Price: $48
Availability: Laura Mercier Bonne Mine Bonne Mine Healthy Glow For Face & Cheeks Crème Colour Palette is a permanent addition to the Laura Mercier product line, and it will be available at Laura Mercier retailers nationwide beginning September 2012.

Nail Polish and More.. Check Out the Goodies in the Julep Boho Chic Mystery Box!

Recently, Julep offered another one of their famous Mystery Boxes. This one had a twist, though.. you could choose the color theme. The choices were based off of their popular Maven boxes, with options like "It Girl" and "Classic With a Twist". I chose "Boho Chic". The Mystery Boxes cost 20 dollars each, but each box had at least 60 dollars worth of nail polish and nail care products.. some of them had up to 200 dollars worth!
I can't resist a good Mystery Box... its so much fun to open them and see what you got! Here is what was inside my Boho Chic Mystery Box:

Close up of the polishes included
I was really happy with my box! I got way more than 20 dollars worth, for sure. It looks like I received a pretty good one.
Included were 8 nail colors, a top and base coat, pedi prep cream, toe separators, a foot file, and a nail serum. I will definitely be scooping up another Mystery Box the next time they are offered!
Have you ever gotten a Julep Mystery Box? How did you do? I'd love to hear!

Review and Swatch: Glitter Gradient with Essie Stroke of Brilliance

Today I have a really pretty glitter polish to show you.. Stroke of Brilliance from the Essie Luxe Effects collection. SOB (hmm, maybe I shouldn't use that acronym?) is a lovely blend of steel blue glitter suspended in a clear base. I love it layered over a white or blue polish, and the mix of different sized glitters makes it perfect for a gradient. You can do this over a base color, or just over you bare nails, which is what I did below.
This is a really quick, easy manicure to do! A couple of coats on the tips of your nails, blending and dabbing the glitter downwards a bit, and you have a quick and chic nail art look. I love the pale blue glitter, there are so many colors I want to layer this over!

Swatches and Review: Fun Summer Polishes from 365 Days of Color - "My Little Cuppycake" and "Soak up the Sun"

I have some bright, fun, and cheery polishes to show you today from one of my favorite indie makers: 365 Days of Color. From her new "End of the Rainbow" collection that launches today, these two shades are super fun, glittery beauties!
First up is "My Little Cuppycake"- a gorgeous mix of rainbow glitter of different shapes and sizes suspended in a milky base.
I absolutely adore white-based glitter polishes, and this one is a dream! So pretty, fun, and festive. I was surprised at how good the formula was, considering how jam-packed with glitter this polish is!

Up next is "Soak up the Sun", multicolored glitter and green microglitter in a cheery yellow base:
This is such a cool polish.. in certain lighting it looks yellow, in others the microglitter makes the polish appear light green. So pretty! Again, no problems with application.
These and the other polishes in the new collection launch today, Friday the 17th at 11am PST at the 365 Days of Color shop
What do you think of these shades?

Review: A Perfect Glow with Laura Geller Balance -n- Bronze and Blush -n- Brighten

I have two lovely products to show you today, both from baked makeup expert Laura Geller. Geller's makeup features luxurious pigments swirled to perfection and baked in terra cotta pans- creating luxuriously smooth, blendable products. I tried out the Balance -n-Bronze and the Blush -n- Brighten in Pink Grapefruit. The Balance -n- Bronze is a really different, innovative product. Pigments of different shades and intensities are swirled into two different sections..one lighter that balances the complexion and illuminates, and one darker that bronzes and contours. You can use a little or a lot from either side to achieve the desired look. The Blush -n- Brighten (I tried the Pink Grapefruit shade) really does just what is says.. it blushes and brightens! The peachy pink shade has a gorgeous golden glow to it. Below are the two products, and a shot of me wearing both.
I really like the Balance -n- Bronze to add a little bit of color to my blindingly pale face, and the Blush -n- Brighten adds such a pretty pink glow! I like how they both add a nice natural wash of color without looking over-saturated or too made-up.
I'm looking forward to trying out more Laura Geller.. these were my first LG products and I'm really loving them!
You can find these and other Laura Geller products at Laurageller.com .

Artsy Wednesday: Sponging!

This week's Artsy Wednesday challenge was to incorporate the sponging technique into a manicure. I kept it quite subtle this week, creating a chic nude and gold manicure.

I first painted my nails with Deborah Lippmann's Human Nature (My new favorite nude polish!). Then, using a makeup sponge, I applied a bit of Color Club Disco Nap about 3/4 of the way down my nails. I love this look! I think the metallic sponged over the nude gives a "gold leaf" effect. Definitely a manicure I'll recreate again.
Be sure to check out the sponge technique manicures from the other ladies participating in Artsy Wednesday!

Forsaken- The New Perfume Inspired by the Hit HBO Series True Blood

As you may know, "Forsaken" is a new beauty line inspired by HBO's hit TV show True Blood. The fragrance of the same name, the Forsaken Eau de Parfum, is the centerpiece of the collection. With notes of blackberry, blood orange, and jasmine rounded out with amber and vanilla, this sultry scent perfectly evokes the vampy mood of True Blood.  This perfume is fruity, but not in an overpowering or too-sweet way. The fruit notes are deep and juicy and are perfectly balanced by the fragrant florals. I love the bottle, too. The heavy glass is adorned with lacy damask-like print and accented with two red charms meant to call to mind drops of blood. Very dark and mysterious! It looks gorgeous sitting on a vanity or dresser.
The scent isn't too heavy, but is very sexy and wearable. I love how long lasting it is! The line also features a complimentary body butter and shimmery body veil- both delightfully scented with the Forsaken fragrance. I love layering all three for fantastic fragrance all day. I really can't get enough of this gorgeous, sumptuous scent.. I use the Forsaken home fragrance diffuser, too!
Whether you are a True Blood fan or not, if you are a fan of exotic, fruity, or  floral perfumes.. give this one a try! You can find it exclusively on HSN
Are you a True Blood fan? Would you try out the Forsaken line?

Beauty for a Cause with Birchbox and Pencils of Promise

Time for the August Birchbox! Birchbox has done themed boxes before, like the Gossip Girl box, or their collaboration with Glamour magazine. This month, however, they have a more philanthropic partnership-  with Pencils of Promise. Pencils of Promise is an organization dedicated to providing education for ALL children, around the globe. Birchbox is donating 15% of all August Sales to the charity, with the goal of raising enough to build a school in South America. The box has a "Back to School" theme, with the inclusion of a "Beauty School" booklet featuring really cute illustrations. Let's check out what was inside the box:

  • .05 oz vial of Viva La Juicy La Fleur perfume
  • Sample jar of Whish Pomegranate body butter
  • 2 1.0 oz packets of Miss Jessie's Pillow Soft Curls lotion
  • 2 oz bottle of DDF Brightening Cleanser
  • Schick Razor
This box is a little lackluster, for me. None of these samples really jump out at me as exciting or high value. Not a stitch of makeup, either, which is a bummer. Last month's box was awesome, so this one is a bit of a letdown. You win some, you lose some! That being said, I appreciate Birchbox's generosity in donating to Pencils for Promise, and hope they sell a lot in the Birchbox shop this month! You can find out more at Birchbox.com

Monthly Beauty Goodies in Beauty Box 5!

I love beauty subscription services.. they are a fun way to find and try out new products. Beauty box 5 is a monthly service that's new to me. The premise is familiar- 4 or 5 deluxe beauty samples delivered to your door each month. Let's take a look at what was in the August Box:

  • Comodynes Urban Cosmetics Peeling Facial Sample Packet
  • 1.76 Oz Can of Freeman Beauty Pssssst! Instant Dry Shampoo
  • .53 Oz Tube of Bodyography Foundation Primer
  • 0.06 Jar of Everyday Minerals Blush in "Girl Friday"
  • 0.0064 Oz Makeup Geek Eyeshadow Refill in Sensuous

I like the range of skin care, hair care, and makeup in this box, and I appreciate how it is a little heavier on the makeup! The mineral blush is a great addition. I do think the inclusion of an eyeshadow refill is a bit awkward, as many people wouldn't have anywhere to put it.  That being said, if you have a magnetic palette like a Z-Palette, it shouldn't be a problem.
Definitely a solid box! Beauty box 5 has featured brands like Blinc Cosmetics, Weleda, and Priti NYC in the past- so I'm looking forward to seeing what's in store for next month!
What do you think of this month's Beauty box 5? You can find out more about the service at http://www.beautybox5.com/

Equestrian Style from John Wind-Maximal Art.. Plus a Giveaway!

While attending an accessories show in NYC a few weeks ago, I got acquainted with an amazing jewelry company- John Wind-Maximal Art. Created by Artist-turned-jewelry designer John Wind, the Maximal Art line , in John's words, mixes "vintage finds with modern accents to create 'gotta have it' jewelry that makes women happy!". Is that a cute premise or what?
I absolutely love the jewelry.. high quality and on-trend at very reasonable price points.
Here is one of my favorite pieces, the Equestrian Necklace:
I love the theme.. "Equestrian Chic" is one of my perennial favorite Fall styles. I wore this necklace with an Ikat print cotton top here, but as the weather cools down I'm looking forward to pairing it with a nice cashmere sweater and a pair of riding boots! The quality of the necklace is great- quite solid and well made. I love how Maximal Art takes little vintage-inspired bits and bobs to create gorgeous modern jewelry like this piece.
John Wind-Maximal Art has been kind enough to provide an Equestrian Necklace to give away here on the blog! You can enter below via the Rafflecopter widget for a chance to win your own!
You can find out more about John Wind-Maximal Art on the company's website, MaximalArt.com .

Deborah Lippmann's Human Nature and Fairy Dust from the True Blood Forsaken Collection - Plus, When I Got to Meet Deborah!

I know the blog has been a bit nail-heavy this week, but there are so many amazing polishes I have to show you! Deborah Lippmann launched her new True Blood inspired line of nail polish (and an awesome lipstick!) yesterday on the Home Shopping Network, but I was lucky enough to attend the launch party for the "Forsaken" line in NYC a couple of weeks ago, where I actually got to meet Deborah Lippmann!
She was absolutely lovely, and so gracious! I told her that I couldn't pick a favorite of her polishes because I liked them all so much, and she said that neither could she- they're like her babies! She was also really excited to launch her first lipstick, called "Bite Me".  Deborah was nice enough to take a picture with me, too! Here we are, both wearing her new lippie!
Did I mention I am quite short?
At the preview we got a look at the entire True Blood line. Besides Deborah's cosmetic contributions, the line also includes an amazing Eau de Parfum (also called Forsaken), as well as complimentary products with the Forsaken fragrance (home fragrance diffusers, body cream, candles, etc.). The launch party was very cool! Kristen Bauer Van Stratten, who plays Pam on True Blood, was also there- looking lovely!
My favorite part of the collection is the nail polish duo inspired by the character Sookie. Combining a gorgeous nude polish (Human Nature) with an amazing shimmer topper (Fairy Dust) , this set is very chic! Its hard to find a perfect nude polish, but the formula on Human Nature is SO GOOD! Creamy, gorgeous coverage in two coats. Add a coat of Fairy Dust and you have something really special. Check it out:
Whether or not you are a fan of HBO's True Blood, do check out the new Forsaken collection of products, especially Deborah Lippmann's lovely polishes! I'll be reviewing the Forsaken fragrance collection soon, so stay tuned!
What do you think of the Human Nature/Fairy Dust duo? You can find it and the rest of the True Blood Forsaken Collection at HSN.

And Now for Something Completely Different... Layla Mirror Effect Nail Polish in Metal Chrome!

I try out a lot, and I mean a lot of nail polishes. There are only so many colors and finishes available, so sometimes a long while can pass before I see something totally unique. Well, the streak is over! Today I have something new and unique to show you.. Layla Metal Chrome, from the Mirror Effect Collection.
While I've seen other metallic or chrome effect polishes, what separates this one is the total absence of brush strokes! The polish dries to a smooth, shiny finish. It is important to use a good, leveling base coat first as otherwise the polish will show any ridges in your nails. I used Gelous base coat, two coats of Metal Chrome, and one coat of HK Girl Topcoat. I'm amazed by the finish on this polish.. I can't stop looking at my nails!
Right now, Layla Mirror Effects are only available in Europe.. but rumor has it they'll be hitting U.S shelves this Fall.
What do you think of it?

Artsy Wednesday: Fishtail Braid Manicure!

This weeks Artsy Wednesday challenge was to create a manicure using the "Fishtail" technique. That is, where you alternate stripes of different colors at an angle to create a braided effect. I used a range of blue polishes to create mine.
I used L'Oreal Club Prive, Wet n' Wild Stay Out of my Bismuth and Black Creme, and Orly Sapphire Silk. I topped it all with HK Girl topcoat to smooth it all out.
What do you think? I think its a fun look, but I should have used more contrasting colors.
Is this a manicure you would try?
Be sure to check out the fishtail manicures from the other ladies participating in Artsy Wednesday!

Lush, Long, Voluminous Lashes with Senna Voluptulash Mascara

image: sennacosmetics.com

I have tried many, many mascaras. I consider myself a bit of an aficionado! Mascara is certainly my ultimate can't-live-without-it product. Now that I've tried Senna Cosmetics' Voluptulash Mascara, I have a new #1. This mascara has it all! Ultra-lengthening, mega-volumizing, super staying power, non-clumping! I can't say enough about how amazing this formulation is. The brush has a lovely double helix shape that delivers an even, clump-free coat of velvety mascara goodness to each and every lash. The mascara doesn't budge, but it also doesn't get brittle. No flakes here! Lashes stay light and flexible. No spidery look, either. Just lush, gorgeous lashes! I could go on and on about this wonderful product, but they say a picture is worth 1,000 words. Shown below is me wearing just two coats of Senna Voluptulash.
Definitely my new "Holy Grail" mascara!
What do you think? You can find Voluptulash at Sennacosmetics.com .

A Shadow Palette That Takes You from Day to Night... Stila In the Know

I have a beautiful eye shadow palette to show you today: In the Know from Stila Cosmetics. I got this as part of my August Bloom.com Beauty Ambassadors Box, and was so excited to try it out!  This palette features a wide array of wearable, neutral shades. You can use the lighter shades for a "daytime" look, or apply the darker shades more heavily for a dramatic look. All of the colors are soft, pigmented, and very blendable.

Isn't the range of colors lovely? I like the addition of the brick shade, "Fire", to add a little splash of color to these muted neutrals. Other highlights for me are "Earth", the lovely brown in the upper right, and "ebony", the black in the lower right. I know there are a million black shadows out there, but this one is so intense and not at all chalky!
Here is a look I created using "Ebony" and "Smoke" (the grey to the left of "Ebony"):
Again, these shadows are so blendable! Its easy to create a variety of looks. For this, I simply blended "Smoke" from the middle of my eyelid outward, and blended "Ebony into the crease of my eyelid. I used the included eyeliner pencil to line the eye lightly, added some mascara (Stila Stay All Day), and that was it! Very easy to do.
I'm looking forward to using this palette all Fall and Winter.. I love it!
What do you think of these shades?

All the best,
Jessica

Dr. Dennis Gross Extra Strength Daily Face Peel

image:bloom.com
I recently tried out Dr. Dennis Gross Extra Strength Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel as part of my participation in the Bloom.com Ambassadors program. The face peel is a two step process, you wipe your face with the step 1 cloth until it feels dry, wait two minutes, and then repeat with the step 2 cloth. The peel is meant to firm skin, reduce pore size, reduce oiliness, and eliminate dullness.
I was hesitant to try the peel, as I was afraid it would be harsh or irritating. I used the peel daily for 5 days, and while I experienced a little bit of tingling, it wasn't uncomfortable. Unfortunately, the peel delivered results on my skin that were quite the opposite of what was promised. I broke out terribly, with blemishes on my chin and forehead. I noticed that my skin was considerably oilier than usual, and my pores much larger. I was incredibly unhappy with this product- it really made my skin look terrible!
My skin is usually quite normal, not oily or dry, and I haven't gotten bad breakouts since I was a teenager. The Daily Face peel really knocked my skin out of whack. Perhaps this would have better results on someone with a different skin type, but it unfortunately did not work for me.
Do you ever do at-home face treatments like this? What were your results?

Jessica

Get Ready for Autumn with Tuscan Fig Eau de Parfum by Lisa Hoffman Beauty

image: Lisahoffmanbeauty.com
I am a real fragrance lover, I believe that the final touch to anyone's beauty routine should be a spritz or two of their favorite perfume. Some people have one signature scent, some a certain type or family of fragrances they stick to, while others wear every sort of fragrance under the sun.
I tend to change the fragrances I wear seasonally. In the Spring and Summer I usually wear something light and refreshing, with citrusy and light floral notes.
In the Fall and Winter I like something a bit warmer and heavier. I recently tried out Lisa Hoffman's Tuscan Fig, and I know its going to be my go-to fragrance as the weather cools! Warm and inviting, Tuscan Fig combines notes of "Vanilla Bean, Honeysuckle, Coconut Wood, and Gardenia". I love how complex and sophisticated it is. You can really smell the individual notes if you close your eyes and pay attention. They are all there, along with ripe fig and even a touch of amber. The vanilla note is very pronounced, but not in an overpowering way. It is neatly balanced by the gardenia and honeysuckle. I love how long lasting the fragrance is, as well. While it does soften throughout the day, it lingers enough to surprise you with an occasional whiff of relaxing fragrance. Tuscan Fig is warm, balanced, sophisticated, and delicious... but not too sweet. It would pair delightfully with a cashmere sweater..a perfect Autumn fragrance!
You can find Tuscan Fig at Lisahoffmanbeauty.com , or try out the very fun Lisa Hoffman iScentify Scent-Finding app to find a fragrance that suits your tastes perfectly!

The Perfect Red Nail Polish for Summer... Rescue Beauty Lounge Poppy

Its no secret that I LOVE Rescue Beauty Lounge. To me, they make some of the most high-quality, gorgeous polishes you can buy. Their new collection- the GOMM collection- is a beautiful range of rich colors inspired by the desert and the work of a famous female painter. Due to unfortunate legal circumstances, however, RBL isn't allowed to use her name in any of the marketing.
One of the most lovely colors from the collection is Poppy.. a gorgeous, bright red with a subtle shimmer.
Its hard to photograph the shimmer in this polish.. but it is there in a subtle, beautiful way! Not all red polishes are created equal.. and this version is an instant classic. Bright, elegant, and universally flattering.. What I'm trying to say is that if you are searching for the perfect red, this may be it!
What do you think of Poppy?

July Favorites!

Time for another Monthly Favorites post! Here I'll share with you some of my favorite beauty buys,  accessories, blogs to read.. all sorts of things! Leave me a comment and let me know if any of my favorites are your favorites too!

House of Marley People Get Ready Headphones
image: thehouseofmarley.com
These are some of the most impressive in-ear headphones I have ever tried. The bass is crazy! They isolate noise incredibly well... So much so that when I was using them on the train the other day, the conductor was apparently asking for my ticket for a solid 60 seconds before someone tapped me and I realized he was standing there (EMBARRASSING!) . You don't need to turn them up to deafening levels to block out whatever noise is happening around you. They have a great look too, and the fabric-covered wires mean far fewer tangles. They come in a cute little drawstring pouch so you can throw them in your purse without them getting messed up. I also like how they come with 3 different sizes of interchangeable rubber earbuds so you can find the right fit. They start at 39.99 and you can find them at thehouseofmarley.com .

Favorite blog:

If you love fashion and style, this blog should be on your daily reading list. But beware! Warwornfashion.com is not for the faint of heart. Diana, the founder and editor lives and breathes this stuff and she doesn't mess around! An FIT grad, designer, and expert Fashionista, she is clearly passionate about Fashion. Keep an eye on her blog for not just the latest but also the greatest in fashion, style, and trends. Check out her super cute style in the video below, and make sure to click the heart in the upper right corner! She is trying to get enough votes to win a trip to Stockholm Fashion Week, and I'd love to see her make it! :)

Beauty Must-Have: Laura Geller Balance-N-Bronze
image: laurageller.com
Another baked beauty from Laura Geller, this bronzer compact is so versatile! You can use the dark side to bronze and contour, the light side to brighten and balance, or you can mix the gorgeous shimmery swirls of pigment as you see fit! This is a great product for when you don't feel like wearing a ton of makeup.. a few swirls here and there and your complexion is bright and bronzed! This is a real multi-tasker, and an absolute must-have in my Summer makeup bag.

Adventure Time

I know, I know. I'm 25. I don't care. I love this show. I watch it with my sister all the time and it cracks us up! Everything on TV nowadays is either a reality show, or super-intense, or a comedy that isn't funny. Its nice to just watch something cute and hilarious!

WOW Jewelry Hangers
image: wowhanger.com

I have an outrageous amount of jewelry, and I'm terrible at keeping it all organized and untangled. I came across WOW Jewelry Hangers recently, and they have provided a really good solution! I have a combo hanger where I can hang necklaces and earrings. I like having my baubles laid out and visible like this.. When I throw things in a drawer sometimes I forget to wear really pretty things that I own! Out of sight, out of mind, you know? The WOW hanger helps me keep everything organized and ready to be worn!

What are some of your favorite things this month?
